Winter times table

I find that chatting about delivering music sessions with vulnerable young adults quickly  turns to subjects involving science, mathematics, numeracy & literacy, from which these guys would typically run a mile from.
Without wanting to sound too smug, once again I 'm reminded that music's got it all going on. "Repeat after me...1,2,3...", "How many bars from the intro?" "Drop the overheads by 3dB" etc, etc.

Now the Greek philosopher, Pythagoras, was a man who knew a thing or two about those connections, not only giving us his theorem to deduce the size of the hypotenuse, but  is also accredited with figuring out the proportions a system of musical tuning in which the frequency ratios of all intervals are based on the ratio 3:2,  as "found in the harmonic series."

Now as for the Golden Section and Sacred Geometry...that's another story..

Skelf Bike Park Sat 15th June 2-4

(Its all doon hill from here)

A celebration of all things on 2 wheels kicking  off the first  Edinburgh Festival of Cycling (EdFoC)

Nestled between Dumbiedykes and St Leonards is a small slither of woodland that we consider to be a prime location for some mayhem.

There'll be tunes and bikes in the area ....oh and BBQ!...What could be better?..

Go to the SKELF page to see what else is planned.

3 men & a dog...Oh my God!

...Well a funny thing happened the other day whilst out at Cramond Island with my mates Tom& Mat. Yes, we got stranded...the rest is  actually more of a meedja spin on what was  a rather shambolic outing. I wish I was calculating and conniving enough to conspire the publicity stunt but I'm not quite low enough to take the micky with the rescue services.
And there will be a song posted up here before long..

Life is Going Downhill Fast

Fabby two-wheeled happenings on the Soothside, Embra, between St Leonard's and Dumbiedykes, adjacent to Holyrood Park. Basically a mountainbike park with a pump track in the middle of the Braidwood. Where it all leads depends on who uses it, but so far the omens are good. Cross party support from local councillors and constructive chats with locals along with  glowing feedback from our first community consultation is a positive sign of more goodness to come....

Have a look at the proposal, and get on board...

ArchipelaGo-Go

BBC Scotland broadcast a repeat of Archipelago, the final of 4 new music commissions funded by Creative Scotland's Quality Production Arts strand.
It's about a journey back to the city from the hills.....only the hills have become islands due to rising seas,  foul weather and freak storms.
What happens next is a dark but humorous escapade that  peaks when the music intercepts Ron Butlin's words, in the poem Gondolas of South Bridge.
Nick Dempsey made the clip you can see here.....hit this link to hear the full glorious 17 minutes....
or get the whole glorious programme on the BeeBeeCee's Aye player. It's only up there for a week mind.
